How to Deck Up Your Bedroom for a Better Night's Sleep

Jun 12, 2017
If you are lacking the much needed Zs, then it’s time to rethink your bedroom decor. Here are a few decor hacks to create a peaceful environment to make sleeping a pleasure activity:

1. Declutter the room
The first step to creating a calm place is to cut down clutter. It’s difficult to get a sound sleep in a place that doesn’t make you feel relaxed. Install enough storage space, in-built plywood cabinets and cupboards to store your things properly. Ensure that you return things to places where you take them from. Remove anything which is not needed. When using plywood for home decor, ensure that you are using products by best plywood manufacturers in India. Greenply is among the top ply manufacturers in India.

2. Use Calming Colours
A relaxing and serene atmosphere calls for calming and muted colors. Earthy browns, soft greens, peach, and shades of blue are comfortable colors that improve sleep and relaxation. However, when it comes to colors, there is no one-size-fits-all rule. You can choose colors that make you happy and help in unwinding at the end of the day.

3. Banish Unwanted Noise
A ceiling fan works wonders in drowning out unwanted noise. Ceiling fans whisper white noise while creating a gentle breeze to keep you cool. If you share the walls with your neighbors, use furniture to minimize noise. For instance, place a heavy bookshelf against the shared wall to drown any noise arising from the neighbor’s apartment.

4. Banish Electronics
You might feel tempted to check your Facebook timeline or e-mails or to catch up with the late night show before retiring to bed, but this will make matters worse. Banish all the electronic gadgets from your bedroom. Electronic gadgets hamper the calmness of the space meant for resting. Disconnect yourself from these distractions for a good night’s sleep.

5. Add soothing scents
Certain scents promote sleep and relaxation. Scents such as vanilla, lavender, and chamomile promote relaxation. Keep aromatherapy diffusers, on your bedside table to help you sleep better at night. You can also use linen spray on the bed sheets and pillow covers to make them smell great. Moreover, the smell of freshly washed linen also makes sleeping a pleasurable affair.

6. Use lights accordingly
The body responds positively to warm ambient light. Warm hued light resembles the light of the setting sun signaling that it’s time to sleep. Use low wattage lights in warmer hues of gold, reddish, and warm yellow. Avoid blue lights. Install dimmer switches to control light in your room and to recreate a cozy environment for inducing sleep. Minimize outside light by installing blackout liners.

7. Get Soft Bedding and Rugs
Ensure that the blanket and rugs you are using are soft and cozy. Use a firm pillow and a mattress that supports your posture and helps you sleep better.

These tips and tricks will help you design a room for recharging and resting.
